2002 Annual Conference: Phoenix, Arizona
From the welcome address given by Karen Thoreson, Assistant city manager of Tucson to the Strut your Co-op Stuff parade through the ballroom on the final day of the conference, attendees exchanged ideas, sought advice, and enjoyed the company of their fellow cooperators. “Housing is one of the most honorable professions to be in,” said Karen Thoreson, immediate past president of the National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials. “Often [providing] housing is a difficult thing to do but a worthwhile goal.” The true meaning of this statement could be seen and heard over the course of the conference from attendees who acknowledged the challenges experienced within their co-op but refused to let those challenges get in the way of the responsibilities given to them as a member of a co-op.
